In June 2008, the newspaper was visited by employees of the Federal Service for Supervision of Mass Communications, Communications and Cultural Heritage , who were interested in publishing articles by Eduard Limonov . According to Ames, officials told him that the check was connected with complaints from readers who claimed that the newspaper "humiliates Russia" and "taunts Russian culture and Russian traditions." The newspaper was fined for "administrative violations." [2]

On June 10, 2008, an appeal by columnist Gary Brecher appeared on The eXile's website in which he asked readers about financial contributions in favor of the newspaper in connection with the financial difficulties of its publication.
