Melissa Chessington Leo ( born Melissa Chessington Leo ; born September 14, 1960 , New York ) is an American actress who works primarily with independent filmmakers. Her work in the movie Frozen River earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Actress in 2009, and two years later she won an award for a supporting role in the movie The Fighter . In 2013, Leo received an Emmy Award for her guest role in the television series Louis [1] .

Biography

Melissa Leo was born into the family of teacher Margaret Leo (nΓ©e Chessington) and editor and fisherman Arnold Leo. She studied at New York State University, but did not graduate.

The first role was played in the daily soap opera " All My Children " in 1984 - 1985 . Leo got the most fame thanks to the TV series β€œ Slaughter department ”, where detective Kay Howard, the only woman in the initial composition of the department, played [2] .

Personal life

In 1987, Leo had a son from actor John Heard , John Matthew "Jack" Heard [3] .
