Limbo ( English limbo , from distortion. English limber - flexible ) - a cowboy dance-game, originally originated in Trinidad and Tobago , consists in the passage of a person under a pre-set bar.
Rules
The dancer, following the rhythm of the playing music, approaches the bar and leans back, as if dancing in a horizontal position . If he touches the bar or falls on his back, then the passage does not count. If several people have taken the required height, then they continue to compete at a lower height - until there is only one person who has submitted all the required heights.
This dance is a hallmark of the Caribbean and is very popular with tourists.
History
The word limbo appeared around the middle of the 16th century. In some African tribes, this dance means the triumph of life over death . Sometimes it is used at a funeral.
In the cinema
In the animated series Futurama , limbo becomes an Olympic sport (see the Bend Her series) and consists in passing 10 barriers at a speed that are getting lower and lower. The distance is 100 meters. It is the exact opposite of hurdling . One of the main characters of the series, the bureaucrat Hermes Conrad , in his youth became the Earth champion in limbo.
