Frank Wiglesworth Clark ( born Frank Wigglesworth Clarke ; March 19, 1847 , Boston - May 23, 1931 , Washington ) is an American geochemist .

Biography
Clark graduated from Harvard University in 1867, and from 1874 to 1883 taught at the University of Cincinnati . From 1883 to 1924 he was the chief chemist of the US Geological Survey .
Major works devoted to determine the composition of various inorganic and natural formations of the earth's crust as a whole. Clark was the first to calculate the average composition of the earth's crust.
Average concentrations of elements in geochemical systems ( lithosphere , hydrosphere , pedosphere , etc.) at the initiative of Academician A.E. Fersman is named after him by the Clarks .
Clarke is also named after Clark.
