Biography
Tom Fontana was born into an Italian-American family; he was the fourth of five children. His cousin is actress and singer Patti Lupont . He began to write plays at the age of nine. According to one of the plays of Fontana, a play was staged in college, where he studied. After graduating from college in 1973 he moved to New York .
In the early 1980s, he came to television . His first work as a screenwriter was the series St. Elswer . He worked on the series “ Prison of Oz ”, “ Slaughter Department ” and many others, for which he was repeatedly awarded prestigious prizes. Fontana wrote articles for publications such as The New York Times and Esquire . His plays were staged in theaters in New York, San Francisco and Buffalo. He is a member of the Guild of Playwrights and the Guild of Producers of America.
Fontana is friends with the creator of the series Law and Order , Dick Wolfe . One of the characters of Law and Order is named after him - detective Joe Fontana, played by Dennis Farina .
