Taekwondo competitions at the XXIX Summer Olympics for men in super lightweight (up to 58 kg) were held on August 20, 2008 in the gym of the University of Science and Technology of Beijing .
Rohulla Nikpay , having won bronze, brought his country the first ever Olympic medal in all sports.

Competition Format
The winners of the fights of the preliminary round of the main grid go to the quarter-finals; the winners of the quarter-finals go to the semifinals; the winners of the semi-finals go to the finals, where they play a gold and silver medal. The losers to the finalists, respectively, in the preliminary round and in the quarter finals meet each other in two comforting matches. The winner of the consolation match is in the battles for the bronze medal with the losing semi-finalist from the other half of the grid. Two bronze medals are awarded.
