Biography

In his childhood he was engaged in karting, repeatedly won titles in various karting championships. In the late 1980s, he participated in the Formula Ford and Formula Opel competitions, and was the British vice champion in Formula 3 . Later he performed in Formula 3000 . In 1990, he became a test pilot of the McLaren Formula 1 team , in 1993-96 he held a similar position in the Benetton team . In 1998, he participated in the FIA ​​GT Championship, won the 24-hour Le Mans race in the GT1 class in a Porsche car. In 2000, he won the American Le Mans Series , speaking for the Audi team. In 2001, he returned to Formula 1, becoming a test pilot of the new Toyota team . The following year he became the main pilot of the team, did not score points, did not rise above seventh in the races. At a training session before the Japanese Grand Prix in 2002, he had an accident in a high-speed turn, received minor injuries and was not allowed to the race. The following year he was a test pilot for the Renault team . Since 2004, he resumed performances in body races and sport prototype races. He won yet another title of the winner of the American Le Mans series , in 2008 he won the one-day marathon in Le Mans in the overall standings. 2013 Le Mans winner (along with Tom Critensen and Loic Duvall).
