The result of the quarterfinal match between Sarah Stevenson from the UK and Chen Zhong from China was revised following the appeal. Chen Zhong led 1β0 when, four seconds before the end of the match, Stevenson hit her opponent in the face, which should have given her two points. However, only half of the judges registered the hit, and Cheng Zhong was declared the winner. An hour later, the British delegation filed a protest, presenting the video as evidence. An unprecedented decision was made in taekwondo history and Stevenson was declared the winner [1] . After losing the next battle of Maria Espinosa from Mexico, she then won a bronze medal. This medal was the first at Stevens in three Olympiads.
The announcement of the quarter-final results was as follows:
The Supervisory Board of the competition carefully studied this case, made an analysis of the video and provided it to all the judges. In accordance with the second paragraph of page 64 of the rules of the competition of the World Taekwondo Federation, we decided to change the result and declare the British participant a winner. We apologize to the Chinese audience, but justice is more important. Thank you for understanding.
