History
Ainu name of the village is Seseki (in Japanese 瀬 石 ), translated as “hot, hot” [4] .
After the transfer of South Sakhalin to the USSR, the village received its modern name [5] by its position near the hot springs. On the coastal areas and in the intertidal zone at the foot of the Mendeleev volcano there are many steam hydrotherms, which are alkaline, sodium chloride sources with a water temperature of 60-100 ° C, used for medicinal purposes and for growing vegetables in a greenhouse.
In 1997, a geothermal heat supply system was introduced in the village.
