“Ukrainian Cossacks. The Small Encyclopedia ” (in Ukrainian Ukrainian Cossacks. Malaya encyclopedia ) is the first [1] encyclopedia on the historical, military, material, spiritual, cultural and political activities of the Ukrainian Cossacks, created by the Scientific Research Institute of Cossacks at Zaporizhzhya State University in 2002.

Encyclopedia Description
In total, more than 120 scholars from Kiev, Zaporizhia, Donetsk, Kharkov, Lviv, Dnepropetrovsk, Cherkassy and others were involved in writing the encyclopedia. The authors of the encyclopedia are scientists in the field of history, ethnography, linguistics, art history, literary criticism and archeology.
1376 articles of the encyclopedia present the circumstances of the emergence and formation of the Cossacks, its role in history, martial art, social structure, legal proceedings, economic activity, life, customs, spirituality and international contacts of the Ukrainian Cossacks, the creation of state formations of the Hetman and Zaporizhzhya Sich .
A series of biographical articles presents prominent figures of the Cossacks of Ukraine, domestic and foreign statesmen, diplomats, scientists, writers and artists, whose attention was focused on the Cossacks. A number of articles describe the development of Cossack traditions in the 19th and 20th centuries. The encyclopedia contains 283 illustrations and 79 maps.
Rewards
In 2002, the encyclopedia was awarded the diploma of the book festival "World of Books - 2002" in Kharkov in the nomination "Book of the Year - the constellation of centuries." [2]
At the II Kiev International Exhibition-Fair “Book Garden - 2002”, in the same year, the encyclopedia received a first-degree diploma in the competition “Best Edition of a New Era” in the nomination “Best Book of the Beginning of 2002”. [2]
