Formation and combat
The brigade was formed in the 1st corps district to participate in the Polish campaign and was equipped with senior military men. The name is due to the East Prussian city of Lötzen (now Gizycko ). Initially, the brigade acted as a part of the Brand group, which was part of the 3rd army , then transferred to the command of the 19th motorized army corps of the general of the tank troops Guderian , who praised her actions in his memoirs “ Memoirs of a soldier ”:
I went to the Lötzen brigade, which was originally supposed to be used as a garrison of this fortification, but then it was brought into battle when attacking through Narew. The brigade and its commander, Colonel Gal, made an excellent impression on me. The crossing of the river was successful, and the offensive itself was carried out energetically. I approved the measures taken by the brigade commander [1] .
After the end of the campaign, the 311st Infantry Division was formed on the basis of the brigade [2] .
