Biography
In 1941, he was hired by the union weekly newspaper. He was a member of the Senate from 1962 to 1967, and after the death of Donald Sangster, was appointed Prime Minister on April 11, 1967 . With Shearer as prime minister, fifty new schools were built in Jamaica.
In the 1972 parliamentary election, Michael Manley became Prime Minister, succeeded as Shearer.
Shearer died at his home in Kingston on July 5, 2004, at the age of 81.
