History
The holiday was established by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR on August 28, 1965 to commemorate the successful development of the oil and gas potential of Western Siberia , as well as the centenary of the domestic oil and gas industry celebrated in 1964.
According to the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated 1.X.1980 No. 3018-X "On holidays and memorable days" (as amended by the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Council of the USSR dated 1.1XI.1988 No. 9724-XI "On amendments to the legislation of the USSR on holidays and memorable days ” and the amendments of 23.XI.1989 and 31.V.2006) the holiday was left the previous name “ Day of workers in the oil and gas industry ” .
