Frederick County is a county in the north of Maryland . The administrative center of the county ( county seat ) in the city of the same name . Frederick County is bordered by Pennsylvania in the north, Virginia in the south, Washington County in the west, Carroll County in the east, and Howard and Montgomery counties in the southeast. In 2000 , 195,277 people lived in the district. The county is named after Frederick Calvert, 6th Baron Baltimore and Governor of Maryland.
