Kurupita Guiana

Kurupita guiana ( Latin Couroupita guianensis ) is an evergreen tree of the Lecithis family, growing in the tropical regions of South America, on the islands of the Caribbean Sea and in South India. Couroupita guianensis aubl.

Reaches 30-35 m in height. Leaves are lanceolate, growing at the ends of branches. Aromatic wax flowers, orange, scarlet or pink, grow on the trunk , forming racemose inflorescences up to 3 m in length. The fruits are large spherical, 14-24 cm in diameter, contain many seeds (200-300 pieces). Ripen for 8-9 months, then fall and crack upon impact on the ground, exposing the white jelly-like flesh.

The fruit pulp, oxidizing in air, acquires a bluish color and has an unpleasant smell, and is also capable of causing allergies, although, according to other sources, it is edible.
