Biography
Club career
Rob de Wit began his football career in his hometown Utrecht at the Utrecht club . In 1984, Rob joined the Ajax Amsterdam . Rob was taken in the place of the left attacking midfielder, in this position the Danes Jesper Olsen , who had left for Manchester United , were in this position. In "Ajax" Rob immediately became a favorite of the local public, in the championship of the Netherlands seasons 1984/1985 and 1985/1986 de Wit regularly appeared on the field.
In 1986, de Wit was forced to end his football career because of a brain hemorrhage that occurred during his vacation in Spain . After unsuccessful treatment in Sweden, it became clear that de Wit would never again be able to play football on a professional level. Rob suffered two more cerebral hemorrhages in 1991 and in January 2005 [1] .
In total, in the championship of the Netherlands, de Wit spent four matches in four seasons and scored 23 goals.
Team Career
In the Dutch national team, Rob made his debut on May 1, 1985 in the mast of the qualifying tournament for the 1986 World Cup against the Austrian national team , the match ended in a draw 1: 1. Almost two weeks later, Rob scored his first goal for the national team, it happened on May 14, 1985 in the match against Hungary , which ended with the score 1-0.
Rob also participated in the playoff match against the Belgian national team on October 16, 1985, Belgium won 1-0, and the Netherlands did not receive a ticket to the 1986 World Cup.
Interesting fact.
The journalist for the De Telegraaf newspaper, Yori van der Biscen, wrote a book called Tragedies, the book tells about tragic incidents in the lives of football players during and after their careers. The case of Rob de Wit also entered the book [2] .
