Gaiters (from the Netherlands. Kraag "collar") - in Russian the name of individual clothing accessories , for example:
- long bells at gloves ;
- gloves with such bells (for motorcycle or horse riding);
- overhead shafts with fasteners ;
- Bracers protecting the archer’s forearm from bowstroke.
Initially, the so-called large turn - down collars , then the name was transferred to the lapels of gloves and knee-highs [1] .

Cavalry Gaiters
Beginning in the 1730s, aristocrats used horseback riding to protect their shafts. They were fixed on the leg with straps. Since the end of the 20th century, they have also been fastened with a zipper . [2]
Motorcycle Leggings
Since the beginning of the 20th century, leggings have become fashionable among motorists, motorcyclists and aviators as a protective part of clothing [3] , similar in structure to cavalry leggings, but on their hands and not on their feet.
In modern language it is used as the name of motorcycle gloves.
