History

The club was founded on May 30, 1923 , when the Šk Čechie and ČšŠk clubs were merged into FC Spartak (Trnava). After the Communists came to power, the club was renamed Metallurg. But in 1952, the historical name was returned.

Golden Era

The beginning of the golden era of Spartak falls on the 1966/67 season. The team led by the legendary coach Anton Malatinsky was the leader of the autumn part of the championship, but by the end of the season went down to 3rd place. The greatest success is the victory in the Mitropa Cup , on the way to which such giants as Lazio and Fiorentina were defeated. The next season, Spartak reached the semifinals of the Champions Cup , where they lost to Ajax . In total, over 10 years (from 1968 to 1978), the team took gold medals 5 times. Spartak also reached the quarter finals of the Champions Cup in 1973 and 1974 .

In the Slovak Championship

In the championship of Slovakia, Spartak took one of the main roles. The club rarely drops below 5th place. The team took silver medals and four bronze medals twice, and the highest achievement is the victory in the 1998 national cup. In the final, Kosice was beaten 2-0.
