Qualification of participants

The National Olympic Committee (NOC) of each country had the right to declare for participation in the competition no more than three athletes who met standard A (2.30 m) during the qualification period from January 1, 2007 to July 23, 2008 . Also, the NOC could declare no more than one athlete from among those who fulfilled the B standard (2.27 m) in the same period. Qualification standards were established by the IAAF . [one]

According to the results of the competition, both records remained the same.

Competition

To qualify for the finals, athletes must show in the qualification a result no worse than 2.32 m. A minimum of 12 athletes enter the finals. If the number of those who completed the qualification is greater, then all athletes who have completed the qualification will qualify for the final. In the event that the number of those who completed the qualification is less than 12, then the athletes are selected in the finals for the best result.

Results are shown in meters. The following abbreviations are also used:

  • Q - qualification standard fulfilled
  • q - qualified for the best result among those who failed to meet the qualification standard
  • SB - the best result of the season
  • PB is the best career result
  • NR - national record
  • NM - there are no credible attempts
