William Barclay Squire ( born William Barclay Squire ; October 16, 1855 , London - January 13, 1927 , ibid.) - British musicologist and librarian.

Together with J. A. Fuller Maitland Squire prepared ( 1899 ) the first edition of The Fitzwilliam Virgin Book, a collection of clavier plays from the late 16th – 17th centuries, one of the main sources of modern knowledge of British music of this period. He compiled, edited and prefaced also the editions of the clavier compositions of Henry Purcell , the works of Palestrina , etc.
In 1885 - 1920 Deputy Director of the Library ( English Deputy Keeper of Printed Books ) of the British Museum , head of its music department. After retiring, he began to create a complete catalog of the Royal Music Library and in 1927 managed to release the first volume of the catalog dedicated to the heritage of Georg Friedrich Handel . He left many years of painting programs of light music concerts of his time [3] .
The William Barkley Squire Prize is awarded at the Faculty of Music of the University of Cambridge for the best term or master work in the history of music [4] .
