Geography
The village is located on both banks of the Gekhi River, 9 km south-west of the regional center - the city of Urus-Martan .
The nearest settlements: Valerik in the north, Gekhi in the north-east, Katyr-Yurt in the north-west, Shalazhi in the west, and Roshni-Chu in the east [5] .
History
Got its name from the Gekhi River.
In 1944, after the deportation of Chechens and Ingush and the abolition of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic, the village of Gekhi-chu was renamed Gornoe [6] .
After the restoration of the Chechen-Ingush Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic , in 1958, the place was returned to its former name - Gekhi-chu.
On April 21, 1996, the military leader of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria , Dzhokhar Dudaev, was killed in Gekhi-Chu [7] .
