The Summer Universiade 1987 - the XIV Summer Universiade was held in Croatian Zagreb ( Yugoslavia ) from July 8 to July 19, 1987 . 6,223 athletes from 122 countries took part in the Universiade. Competitions were held at the Maksimir stadium.

Symbol
The symbol of the competition was Zagi squirrel , which lives in the city parks of Zagreb . According to the author ( Croatian Nedjeljko Dragic ), the squirrel embodies sporting dynamism, as well as cheerfulness, which is a cover for prudence. The goodwill and venue of the Olympiad is underlined by a small black hat, a characteristic element of the folk costume in this area, taken in greeting. [1]
