Qualification

The women's soccer tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics was attended by 12 teams, whose number has increased compared to previous Games. Competitions were held from August 6 to 21 , and they began two days before the official opening of the Games. For the first time, Argentina , Canada , North Korea and New Zealand took part.
