Gudvangen is a village in the municipality of Aurland in the county of Sogn og Fjordane , Norway . Gudwangen is located in one of the Norwegian inner fjords - Nerøyfjord and is a popular tourist destination. The village is located in a narrow gorge and is surrounded by steep cliffs overgrown with forest.

The name Gudvangen in Old Norse sounded like Gudvangir . The first root gud means “god”, and the word vang (en) is still used to mean “open space in front of the place of worship” ( Aurlandsvangen and Vossevangen ). In pre-Christian times, there were several places of worship in Gudvangen. [one]
Gudvangen tourist specialization - the Viking Age . In 1865, Gudwangen was connected with Bergen by steamboat , and this was the beginning of tourist activities in the village. In Gudvangen there is a hotel with old-style rooms and a gift shop with a huge range of themed items. In summer, you can get to Gudwangen by cruise ship. There is a ferry service between Gudwangen , Kaupanger , Lairdahl and Flåm . There is Vegtunnelen Gudvanga , a tunnel connecting Gudwangen with Uddredal .
