Biography
In 1914 he entered the Petrograd Conservatory , studied in the composition class of Vasily Kalafati and in the piano class of Alexander Winkler .
Since 1919 , Mr .. worked in the Red Army Theater, in 1920 was one of the organizers of the Red Army Theater in Kharkov . Then he worked in Kiev, organized the Kiev Philharmonic , the State Theater for Children ( 1924 ), the Russian Drama Theater ( 1926 ) and other musical and drama institutions. Since 1939 , the organizer and artistic director of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Ukrainian SSR. Member of the CPSU since 1944. Honored Artist of the USSR ( 1947 ).
Among the main works of Vilensky are the opera for children “The Little Humpbacked Horse” (1935), the “Harvest Festival” ballets (1948) and “Ivasik-Telesik” (for children, 1949), the musical comedies “Sorochinskaya Fair” (1936), “Years” Young ”(1959),“ Shelmenko-batman ”(1962), suites for a symphony orchestra and orchestra of folk instruments, pieces for piano and button accordion, songs on verses by Maxim Rylsky , Oles Honchar , Savva Golovanivsky , etc.
He was married to S.I. Kryzhanovskaya, adopted her son from his first marriage, Mikhail (who, in turn, became the father of the composer K. Vilensky ).
