Formula 1
His wife made his debut in 1999 , gaining a place in the Minardi team, where his partner was the future Ferrari partner Italian Luca Badoer . It was a difficult year, but after a series of ninth and eighth places he earned his first point, as well as the first for Minardi since the 1995 season, finishing sixth at the European Grand Prix . Mark stayed with Minardi in 2000 , but did not earn a single point.
Not finding a place in any of the teams for the 2001 season, Genet signed a contract with Williams for the position of test pilot. Subsequently, he drove several Grand Prix for Williams. This first happened at the Italian Grand Prix in 2003 , where Ralph Schumacher was unable to take part in the race due to a concussion. Wife got his best result in Formula 1, taking 5th place, but by the next race in the US, Ralph Schumacher recovered and returned to the team. After a back injury sustained by Ralph Schumacher at the 2004 US Grand Prix , Genet replaced him at the French and UK Grand Prix, but did not score points. After these races, the place passed to Antonio Pizzonia , and Genet no longer participated in Formula 1 races.
In November 2004, Genet signed a contract for the test pilot position for Scuderia Ferrari , where he worked with former Minardi partner Luca Badoer. His contract was renegotiated in 2007 . [1] The restriction on tests since 2007 has affected the number of participants in the tests. Marc Genet was aimed at signing a contract with the Campos Grand Prix team, who was planning to participate in the 2010 Formula 1 season , but the project was canceled. [2]
Other racing series
Genet signed a contract with the Peugeot factory team for performances on the prototype Peugeot 908 in the Le Mans Series , at 24 Le Mans . In 2008, his wife had a serious accident on the Peugeot 908 in the practice of the 24 hours of Le Mans 2008 , broke his toe, but was able to get out of the car. [3] However, a year later, the Peugeot crew, consisting of Marc Genet, David Brabham and Alexander Wurtz , traveled 382 laps on the road to victory in the 2009 Le Mans 24 hours . His wife spent the last segment of the race and led the Peugeot 908 to victory under the applause of the French public, this interrupted Audi 's series of victories in the prestigious competition. In 2010, he won the ALMS series “ 12 Hours of Sebring ” in the same car, performing in a carriage with Anthony Davidson and Alexander Wurz.
