Division History
The division was formed in Kubinka on the basis of the directive of the National High School No. org / 524661 of 07/08/1941 and the order of the Non-Commercial Organization No. 00394 of July 10, 1941 on the basis of the 59th Panzer Division , which arrived from the Far East.
On July 20, 1941, the division became part of the 33rd Army and concentrated in the area of Pushkino - Mikhailovskoye - Luninka .
07/25/1941 two tank battalions with a material unit were allocated and sent to the Leningrad Front from the division.
On 03/03/1941 , the division was transferred to the Zherelevo area, wheeled vehicles on its own, tanks - by rail to the Betlitsa station, for operations in the Roslavl area. On 06/06/1941, the division became part of the 43rd Army .
08/08/1941 three tank companies T-26 were allocated and sent to the commander of the 53rd Infantry Division from the division .
On August 22, 1941, by order of the troops of the 43rd Army, the division moved under its own power to a new area of ββconcentration: Belorus - Kokhany - Bykovo.
On August 30, 1941, he was advancing on Yelnya from the area south of Bogdanovo. On the first day of the offensive, the division broke through the defenses of the 23rd Infantry Division , advanced 12 kilometers forward, and reached the Kostyryam. 08/31/1941, a reconnaissance battalion group, entering the village of Buda 2nd, came under strong anti-tank fire of the enemy and was almost completely destroyed. On the morning of September 1, 1941, in the area of ββthe village of Vasilyevka, the Germans, pulling up to the infantry regiment and up to 60 tanks, struck at parts of the 211st Infantry Division, who hastily retreated behind Desna . The Germans took the Bryantsevka crossing and went to the rear of the units of the 109th Panzer Division, cutting off from the main forces the artillery division and two companies of the motorized rifle regiment operating on the right flank in the area south of Vasilyevka. During the day, units of the division fought with superior enemy forces, in 19-00 an order was received from the division commander to withdraw for the Desna. After three days of fighting, units of the division concentrated in the area of Zui , Kholm , Klin .
On September 6, 1941, the division was given the task, in cooperation with units of the 149th and 211st rifle divisions, of the 104th tank division, to assist the 24th army in the destruction of the Yelninskaya enemy group.
Performing the task, from September 7 to 16, 1941, units of the division participated in battles for the second time in the area of Shatkovo - Tikhonovka - Dubrovka - Bykovnitsa - Berezovka - Pavlovo - Amshara, Smolensk Region.
Having suffered heavy losses during these battles, the division was reorganized into the 148th Tank Brigade on September 16, 1941 .
