Club career

Nick Barmby was born on the western outskirts of Hull and began playing football for the local children's teams Springfield and National Tigers, where his football talent manifested early. He graduated from Calvin Hall School and continued his studies at the School of Excellence under the auspices of the Football Association . His father at the time was his father, a former footballer, Jeff Barmby, who became Nick's agent. Soon the talent of Barmby Jr. attracted the attention of serious football clubs.

Barmby accepted the invitation of Tottenham Hotspur and in the 1992/1993 season he was fixed in the main team of this club. He spent 100 matches and scored 27 goals in all competitions for “ spurs ”, in their composition he played twice in the semifinals of the FA Cup (both times the Londoners lost). In June 1995, Nick became the most expensive acquisition in the history of Middlesbrough , who signed it for 5.25 million pounds , but just 17 months later, Everton set his own transfer record, having bought Barmby’s contract from Boro for 5.75 million . As part of this team, Nick spent four seasons and became fans' favorites, but in 2000 he made one of the most unusual transitions, replacing Everton with his most important opponent butterscotch "-" Liverpool ". The Reds paid £ 6 million on the deal. This transfer from Everton to Liverpool was the first in the history of two clubs since the transfer of striker Dave Hickson in 1959 .

Barmby helped Liverpool make a treble in the 2000/2001 season - the team won the FA Cup , UEFA Cup and League Cup . For Liverpool, Nick scored ten goals in all tournaments (including one against Everton in the Merseyside derby ), but his two seasons at the club were overshadowed by constant injuries and lack of readiness for matches. He was eventually sold to Leeds United , where he was reunited with the head coach of his first club, Terry Venables . As part of this club, he last appeared in the Premier League match. In the 2003/2004 season, he was on a rental at Nottingham Forest , and then returned to his hometown, signing a contract with Hull City . In the first season, he helped the club get out of the First League in the Football League Championship . In that campaign, he scored the fastest goal in the history of Hull City, on November 6, 2004, hitting Walsall's goal already in the seventh second of the meeting. He played for the Hull in the 2007/2008 season , in which the club entered the Premier League through butt games (although just a year before that, the City had difficulty avoiding relegation to the First League).

On January 7, 2012, Barmby decided to end his playing career [1] .

International Career

Barmby spent 23 matches for the first England national team , of which he started thirteen in the starting lineup and replaced in ten. On his account four goals scored, including the first goals of the team at Glenn Hoddle and Sven-Joran Ericsson . He took part in the 1996 and 2000 European Championships , and also helped the British win a historic victory with a score of 5: 1 over the German national team in Munich on September 1, 2001 .
