Tigran Gevorkovich Martirosyan ( Armenian Տիգրան Գ. Մարտիրոսյան ; born June 9, 1988 in Leninakan , Armenian SSR ) is an Armenian weightlifter , multiple champion of Armenia, three-time European champion (2008, 2010, 2015), world champion (2010). Honored Master of Sports of Armenia (2009).

Biography

Tigran Martirosyan was born in the famous family of Armenia weightlifter Gevorg Martirosyan. In 1999, after his father died, he began weightlifting under the leadership of Ashot Mkhitaryan .

In 2003, he won the European Championship among youths, and in 2004 - the winner of these competitions. In the same year he won the gold medal of the European Championship among juniors, and in 2005 repeated this success. Since 2006, he began performing in adult competitions. In 2007, he won the silver medal at the European Championships in Strasbourg , and in 2008 he won the European Championships in Lignano and won the bronze medal of the Olympic Games in Beijing . After 8 years, in 2016 he was deprived of the Olympic award for the use of doping.

In 2009, Tigran Martirosyan moved to a heavier weight category. Having made his debut at the world championship in Goyang , he took second place, losing only to the Chinese Liu Xiaojun . In 2010, he became the European champion, confidently defeating both exercises, and at the World Championships in Antalya he was able to take revenge from the Chinese athlete and win the title of world champion. He dedicated this success to the memory of his coach Ashot Mkhitaryan, who died suddenly several months before the tournament. [1] Tigran Martirosyan went down in history as the first athlete to win the gold medal of the world weightlifting championship for men under the flag of Armenia. Doping

On August 31, 2016, the International Olympic Committee annulled the results of Tigran Martirosyan at the 2008 Olympic Games and deprived him of a bronze medal in the category up to 92 kg. [four]
