Gunmakaz

Gunmakaz (from the English. Gun makers - gunsmiths) is a Russian rap group from St. Petersburg , which was distinguished by a deep funky sound extremely uncharacteristic for Russian rap in the spirit of the classic New York hip-hop ( Gang Starr , Native Tongues ). Some songs are recorded in the more modern style of dirty south .

History

Big D and L-Brus began their journey in the band “ Other Emotions ” [1] , which represented St. Petersburg at the 2003 Rap Music International Festival. Later they organized the band Gunmakaz, which in addition to two MCs included a music producer, beatmaker and DJ Beat-Maker-Beat . Many tracks of the trio were recorded with the participation of vocalist Nasty (not to be confused with Anastasia Kochetkova), but members of the group called her “a separate solo artist” [2] . In the mid-2000s, the group was actively recording and performing in clubs in their hometown. The first published record of Gunmakaz was a song with UmBriaco, “Take Care of the Wheelbarrow”, which was included in the album “Eureka”.

In 2007, CD Land released their debut album, Gunmakaz, dubbed " Fan Funk EP " [3] . In 2007-2008 the group recorded joint songs with such artists as Smokey Mo , Decl , 3NT , V-Style , Check , MC Young , NMP SQD . Some of them are present on the album “Fans of the Fan”, others were released on the albums of the respective artists ( 3NT - Metro , Smokey Mo - Planet 46 ). The EP was to be followed by the LP “Lifestyle” [3] , but by mid-2008 this album was never released.

The group consisted of Def Joint, under the auspices of which national albums are released.

In early 2008, the group left L-Brus. [4] For some time Big D and Beat-Maker-Beat, along with St. Petersburg MC D.Mast, continued to perform under the name Gunmakaz, but the band soon ceased to exist. All participants continue their solo career with Def Joint.

In April 2009, Big D took part in the second season of the Battle of Respect TV show on Muz-TV . [five]

Disagreement with the Law

In their work Gunmakaz has repeatedly advocated the legalization of marijuana . Musicians were persecuted by the authorities for the use and possession of cannabinoids.

On December 24, 2007, Big D was detained by police officers ten meters from the house with narcotic drugs (marijuana) on a large scale. A criminal case was opened, Big D was released on his own recognizance [6] .

On April 3, 2008, a similar charge was brought against L-Brus’s second MC. On June 5, 2008, L-Brus was convicted by the Primorsky District Court of St. Petersburg for holding drugs for three years in prison (with a probation period of two and a half years) [7] [8] [9] .

In the summer of 2015, L-Brus was again detained, allegedly for selling drugs on an especially large scale, and is currently in prison. According to some reports, the term of imprisonment is 12 years.
