The Golden Eagle is the national film award of Russia . It was established by the “National Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of Russia” (the president of the Academy is V.N. Naumov ). Awarded since 2002 . Selection by nominations is carried out by the “Expert Council”; The prize is awarded based on the voting results of the full members and corresponding members of the Academy [1] .

About Prize
The award was established on March 4, 2002 . The prize figure “Golden Eagle” is made of gilded bronze with enamel at the tips of the wings - the tricolor of the Russian flag and placed on a jasper pedestal. Its author is the sculptor Viktor Mitroshin (awarded until 2013 inclusive). Since 2014, a new prize figurine has been awarded (31 cm high, weighing 953.10 g, made of gilded bronze, stand made of Indian green marble, with enamel on the tips of the wings - a tricolor of the Russian flag, with emeralds 0.04 carats - the eyes of an eagle). In 2016, the award was returned to the original design, the figurine was made by the partner of the ceremony - jewelry company Mercury . The eagle’s figure is made of gilded silver, the base of the figurine is of a rare type of Italian marble, on which the brand’s logo is added, supplemented with a diamond [2] [3] .
On June 26, 2002, as part of the 24th Moscow International Film Festival, an official presentation of the National Academy of Motion Picture Sciences and the first award of the Golden Eagle awards for their contribution to the development of cinema art took place. The winners were Andrei Tarkovsky , George Zhzhenov , Fedor Khitruk , Tatyana Samoilova , Michel Legrand and Bernardo Bertolucci [4] .

Criticism
Vladimir Menshov (from an interview with the Itogi magazine 02.03.04):
“I do not want to offend anyone, but this year I received the Golden Eagle application a day before the ceremony. It was urgent to put the pros and cons. Did you manage to process the questionnaires received at the last moment, how many of them did not even reach the vote - questions to which I have no answer. It would be nice to introduce the very openness and transparency that we were promised at the establishment of this award. Because the results of the Golden Eagle do not inspire confidence - they really resemble the results of some festival, where the jury, in order not to offend anyone, evenly distributes the awards among all applicants ” [5] .
Victor Matizen :
The Golden Eagle is Nikita Mikhalkov’s pocket award. Experience shows that the award prefers either the films of Mikhalkov himself or the films of his TriTe Studio . She is clearly engaged. Although those who vote there are filmmakers who have a cinematic taste, intuition and understanding of mastery [6] .
