History

The award was established in 1940 in Krakow for veterans of the OSS of the Ukrainian Galician Army. The cross has two editions - the Big Cross and the Small Cross, in 1940 and 1964 . The Grand Cross of the first issue consisted of two parts. The central element of the award was a shield with the image of a trident, which was attached to the stylized cross in the form of the coat of arms “Kurch” , which belonged to hetman Ivan Mazepa . Behind the shield were two crossed swords, which meant an armed struggle for the independence of Ukraine. The cross had dimensions 38x28 mm and was attached to a black ribbon with two purple paths on the sides. The large cross of the second issue (1964) was made of solid metal . Dimensions and tape are the same as in the first issue. In addition to the Big Cross, a small copy of 20x15 mm in size was also made, which was worn on the lapel of the jacket.

Awarding

The awarding regulation was approved, which prescribed the presentation of the cross in a festive atmosphere, during national holidays or congresses. For the award issued a certificate and a letter with signatures, the official seal of the CSS and the number of the award.
