Gemmatimonas (lat.) Is a recently described genus of bacteria , the only one in the Gemmatimonadetes type [1] , including two species [2] .

The first representative of the type was isolated in 2003 from wastewater and described under the name Gemmatimonas aurantiaca as a gram - negative rod - shaped bacterium capable of reproduction by budding [3] .

In the database of the National Center for Biotechnological Information for January 2016, the Gemmatimonadaceae family includes one genus with two species, as well as one candidate " Gemmatirosa kalamazoonesis " DeBruyn et al. 2013 and several unclassified strains [4] .
