Rochefort, Jean

Career

Jean Rochefort studied at the Nantes City Conservatory , at the Drama Center and at the Higher National Conservatory of Dramatic Art . In 1949, he appeared in Paris, performed on the stages of many metropolitan theaters, including the National Folk Theater . Rochefort worked a lot on television, and his film debut took place in 1958; starred mainly in comedies. He spent 1961 in the USSR, where he starred in the comedy " Leon Garros is looking for a friend " ^[6] . Jean Rochefort later recalled: “I am a man of right-wing views, but with a sensitive social consciousness. Everything related to the state, to the administration scares me. This feeling appeared during my filming in the USSR. It was in 1959, in the era of Khrushchev , and it was a real horror. I suddenly realized that we were filming a propaganda movie. When I returned to France, I tried to convince the Cafe de Flore regulars that the Soviet Union was hell, but no one believed me. I went against the ideas of part of the French intelligentsia. But I had a friend who spent 20 years in the Gulag for a song against Stalin ” ^[7] .

Rochefort played his first major role in 1972 in the film Lights of the Present , where Annie Girardeau was the husband and father of the young Claude Jade . In 1976, and then in 1978, he received Cesar awards for the best supporting role in the film “ Let the Holiday Begin ” and for the main role in the film “ Crab Drummer ”.

Personal life

In 1960, he married Alexandre Mosava, they had two children: a daughter Marie (1962) and a son Julien (1965). After 20 years of marriage, divorced and lived seven years with actress and director Nicole Garcia , they had a son - actor Pierre Rochefort (1981). In 1989, he married Francoise Vidal, the couple has two children - Louise (born 1990) and Clemence (born 1992).

Death

The last years of his life were seriously ill. He died in one of the Paris hospitals, where he was from August, on the night of October 8–9, 2017 ^{[8] [9]} .
