In Soviet times, until the 1970s, there were two stores in this place: in addition to Moscow, the Academic Book store of the Nauka publishing house was functioning.

The store was opened on November 5, 1958 as bookstore No. 100 . During these years in Moscow, with the active participation of a member of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the CPSU , deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, E. Furtseva , for the first time, only 3 large bookstores were opened.

Its first director was the book lover Viktor Viktorovich Steblov , who worked at this place until his retirement in 1968. On May 27, 1968, Tamara Vasilievna Uryadova became the director. In 1979, in connection with the upcoming Olympic Games , repairs were carried out in the store. In 1991, Marina Nilovna Kameneva became the director. In 1995, the store switched to self-service, and since 1998 it became a limited liability company (LLC).

Presentations of book novelties with the participation of authors are regularly held at the store. In particular, Moscow was visited by a Turkish writer, Nobel Prize winner in literature Orkhan Pamuk (2006) , American filmmaker David Lynch (2009), former German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder (September 8, 2007) [1] .

The book house "Moscow" is a member of the Russian Book Union [2] .

The store’s information system uses a self-developed configuration of the 1C: Enterprise software package. The configuration was certified by 1C and is replicated for other stores. [3]

In addition to a wide range of modern publications, the store provides readers with a wide selection of antique and second-hand books published in Tsarist Russia and the USSR .
