He studied at the Toulouse Conservatory, then at the Paris Conservatory with Yves Nat (piano), Henri Busset (composition), Charles Munsch and Roger Desormier (conducting). In 1943 he was awarded the Rome Prize for the cantata "The Legend of Icarus" ( French: La légende d'Icare ), but the material expression of this prize - a two-year stay in Rome - was postponed to the post-war 1946 - 1947 .
As a pianist, Sankan recorded the piano concerts of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Maurice Ravel , but was best known for his ensemble with Andre Navarre : together they recorded all the sonatas for cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven . The companion heritage of Sankan includes the opera Ondine ( French Ondine ; 1966 ), the ballets Reflections ( French Reflets ; 1965 , based on his own Concert for Piano and Orchestra), Comedy del Arte ( 1951 ) and Ants ( fr.
