Claude Simerman ( French: Claude Cymerman ; born October 2, 1947 , Metz ) is a French - American pianist .

From the age of seven he studied at the Metz conservatory with Marcel Mercier, then he graduated from the Paris Conservatory , Pierre Sankan's class. In 1971 , he received the second prize of the Marguerite Long International Competition in Paris, and immediately after that, at the invitation of György ебebek, he left for an internship at Indiana University. Since 1974 , he has been teaching at the music department .
As a performer, Simerman prefers chamber music, especially duets with violinists, among which, in particular, were Federico Agostini , Sherban Lupu and Hu Naiyuan (with whom he recorded an album of Viennese waltzes). Other Simerman records include works by Erich Korngold and George Enescu .
In 1982 , he played the role of Johannes Brahms in the French television movie.
