Gray mussel

Gray mussel [1] , or giant mussel ( lat. Crenomytilus grayanus ) is a species of marine bivalve mollusks from the mussel family ( Mytilidae ). They live in shallow areas (3-30 m) of the northwestern part of the Pacific Ocean: in the Sea of Japan and Okhotsk . The shell length of large individuals may exceed 21 cm, and the mass of a mollusk with a shell may reach 1.6 kg. Like other members of the family, the top of the shell of an adult Gray mussel is shifted to the front edge, which gives it a characteristic triangular-oval shape.
