Biography

Alan Parker was born in London. He came from an advertising bureau to television, where he was also engaged in advertising. He shot a few short films. The first full-length film “ Bugsy Malone ” (Bugsy Malone, 1976), a gangster-style film with actor-children and cream-shooting machine guns, was met with interest in Cannes.

The following picture, “ Midnight Express ” (Midnight Express, 1978) about the suffering of a young American random drug smuggler in a Turkish prison, with his half-scandalous success, put the young director in the forefront of Anglo-American directing.

In the future, Parker proved himself primarily as a professional, making films in a wide variety of genres - from a musical about students of the New York Graduate School of Arts, such as “Glory” (Fame, 1980) to family drama (“Go for Cheating”, 1982) . "Pink Floyd - the Wall" (Pink Floyd - the Wall, 1982) is an original, video-visual video-clip based on the album of the rock group "Pink Floyd." “Bird” (Birdy, 1985, Grand Special Prize of the International Film Festival jury in Cannes) is a philosophical drama about a Vietnam war veteran, as a result of a post-traumatic shock imagining himself a bird. In 2002 he was awarded the Order of the British Empire .

Alan Parker is chairman of the British Director's Guild and founder of the British Film Committee.

Alan is an admirer of Andrei Tarkovsky’s talent, therefore, in his film “The Heart of an Angel” (1987), he beat the famous scene from “The Mirror ”, in which it rained from the ceiling - blood flows from the ceiling.
