Polichinel ( fr. Polichinelle , from Italian. Pulcinella - Pulcinella) is a character of the French folk theater : a hunchback, a cheerful bully and a joker. Popular among the people, he became one of the favorite heroes of the puppet theater . Appeared on the stage of the fair theater at the end of the XVI century. "Relative" of Russian Parsley , English Pancha and Pulcinella from the Italian commedia dell'arte . An incorrigible talker, he reported things known to everyone under the guise of secrets; hence the expression "an open secret ."
In a broad sense, an "open fun" - a jester, a frivolous person.
After the events of 9th Thermidor II, according to the Republican calendar in France, young men were called "open-flown people" who followed a new inconceivable fashion: shortened reingotes and enormous hairs on their head, resembling dog ears .
