Ercole del Rio , Domenico ( Italian: Domenico Ercole del Rio ; c. 1718 - c. 1802, Modena ) - Italian chess player , theorist, chess composer , outstanding representative of the Italian chess school . The author of a treatise on chess (published under the pseudonym "Anonymous from Modena", 1750), which had a great influence on the development of chess in Italy, and the book "Game of Chess" (1763), where he presented analyzes of the Scottish and Spanish (defense 3 ... a6) games . Some studies by Ercole del Rio are relevant to modern endgame theory.
