Biography
He studied with his father, also Franco Gully, a pupil of Otakar Shevchik and Jan Marzak . After graduating from the Trieste Conservatory ( 1944 ), he improved at the Chigi Academy at Arrigo Serato and in Switzerland at Jozsef Szigeti . He performed around the world as a soloist, from 1947 for half a century he played a duet with pianist Enrica Cavallo , who in 1950 became his wife. In addition, he performed with the Italian String Trio with Bruno Juranna and Amedeo Baldovino , and then with Giacinto Karamya. Recorded Vivaldi's The Seasons , concerts of Beethoven , Mendelssohn , Paganini , Prokofiev , with Enrica Cavallo - all Beethoven's sonatas, as part of the trio - all Beethoven's trios, and other works.
In 1995, the duet Gully and Cavallo was awarded the St. Michael Prize for his contribution to Italian music in Trieste .
He taught at the Chigi Academy, at the Lucerne Conservatory, and since 1972 - at Indiana University .
