Known for documents from the second half of the 17th century . In the list of populated areas, 1862 is referred to as the owner's village with 96 inhabitants.
Over the years of its existence, it also had the name Naumshchina . Both place names are associated with the Yelets service man Naum Shatalov.
At the end of the 19th century, it was bought by A. N. Khvostov .
In 1987, Shatalovka ceased to be a settlement. The 19th-century manor house in the eclectic style and the Khvostov Garden, which is protected as a dendrological natural monument, have been preserved.
