Secret advice

This is an important part of the Westminster system , originally represented by E.V. The Honorable Privy Council in Great Britain . Several other Privy Councils also advised the Sovereign. England and Scotland used to have separate Privy Councils, but under the Association Act 1707 were replaced by one body.

Ireland continued to have a separate Privy Council even after the 1800 Unification Act . The Irish Privy Council was canceled in 1922 , when the Irish Free State separated from Great Britain; after him remained the Privy Council of Sev. Ireland , which became "sleeping" after the suspension of the Parliament of Northern Ireland in 1972 .

Since 1867, Canada has its own Privy Council - the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada . (Note that this is the Canadian Privy Council “for Canada,” it is not for the “Great Britain.”) An equivalent government agency in most other Commonwealth kingdoms and in some Commonwealth republics is called the Executive Council . Jamaica also has the Privy Council, whose members advise the Governor General on amnesty privileges .

The British Privy Council is also the highest judicial authority , the equivalent of the Supreme Court for many Commonwealth countries that were formally part of the British Empire (for example, Jamaica , Belize ) and for other British overseas possessions (for example Bermuda , Falkland Islands ). Decisions of the Privy Council are not binding on the courts of England and Wales, but since the judges there are the same as in the House of Lords , the decisions are deeply convincing.
