Story

The action begins in 1999 in St. Petersburg . The plot focuses on the operational staff of the district police department and the slaughter department of the headquarters. The first season of the series includes a story connected by a single plot (9 episodes). In the following seasons, as a rule, each series is an independent criminal detective story.

The main characters of the series Igor Plakhov and Vasily Rogov are police officers, their service is associated with the disclosure of both domestic crimes and the fight against organized crime . Working for a penny wage and risking their lives, the heroes do their duty. In the first season, the main characters are employees of the district police department. Anatoly Dukalis, who in turn does not lose touch with his old friends, the heroes of the series “ Streets of Broken Lights ”, is transferred to the department to Plakhov and Rogov. Starting from the second season, the employees of the district department Plakhov, Rogov and Shishkin are transferred to the “commander’s office”, under the direct supervision of the general (San-Sanych). Here their paths diverge from the "cops" (Dukalis, Volkov, Larin and Solovets). The service throws them to a variety of places: ( Los Angeles , Chechnya , Cote d'Azur , South Africa ) and everywhere they demonstrate high professionalism, resourcefulness and a sense of humor, which allows them to come out of the most difficult trials with honor.

The plot of the series has a lot of hidden parody, reminiscences and quotes from famous films and books (“The White Sun of the Desert ”, “ Colombo ”, “ Features of the National Hunt ”, “ Meeting Place Cannot Be Changed ”, “ Old Robbers ”, works about Sherlock Holmes and many others).

Creation History

It all started with great success, which fell to the lot of the series "Cops" (" Streets of Broken Lights "). In 1998, the low-budget production of TNT channel with unknown actors in the lead roles unexpectedly earned a high rating and audience sympathy. However, in 1999, after disagreements between the TNT channel management and the scriptwriter Andrei Kivinov, the latter went to the competitors, Channel One, where he proposed the idea of filming a series with a similar script based on his works [3] . The co-author of the script was the former colleague of Andrei Pimenov (“Kivinov” - the pseudonym Pimenov) for the Kirov police department of Leningrad [4] .

In the pilot episodes of the project, the actors who played in the series “Streets of Broken Lights”: Selin, Nilov, Trukhin, and Polovtsev [5] were invited to play. However, then the initiative completely passed to the new heroes of Khabensky and Fedortsov [2] . The series premiered on March 13, 2000 on the ORT channel. In the premiere year, an interesting situation arose in the broadcast network. Two popular series, "Cops" and "Deadly Force", went at the same time on two competing channels NTV and ORT with the same main characters. Moreover, according to experts of the TNS Gallup Media agency, the rating of the premiere episodes of "Deadly Force" was higher [6] .

Criticism

Konstantin Khabensky - Igor Plakhov (series "Year of the Capercaillie" cartoon insert)

The series received conflicting ratings. On the one hand, critics noted professional directorial and cameraman work, the bulge of characters, humor, and non-standard scenario solutions. But it was impossible not to notice the secondary character of the series as a clone of the series “Streets of Broken Lights”. The image of the heroes, “cops” from the neighboring regional branch, somewhat faded and lost their originality [7] .

Despite the obvious borrowing, “Destructive Force” as conceived by the creators is not a continuation or offshoot ( spin-off ) of the “Streets of Broken Lights”. The series has a different concept. The stories are more adventurous in nature, detective situations are much more diverse: heroes infiltrate an organized criminal group that goes to the top of power. Some episodes have a clearly political accent (operation in Chechnya ). Wider geography of the series. The names of the invited stars [8] [9] are much louder.

Exploiting the ideas of their predecessors, the creators gave the protagonists somewhat absurd features that do not correspond to the idea of fighters against organized crime and supermen in uniform. Plakhov and Rogov are heroes with a full complement of shortcomings, not particularly successful in their careers and personal lives.

In "Cops", the good-natured Tolyan Dukalis started as a supporting hero, [...] Having come out in the "slaughter" version as the main character, almost a hero-lover, he not only gives up the palm in the part of unluckiness and amusement to the newly-fledged miserable Vasya Rogov, a kind of cop Chonkin, but also farther and farther away in the new-found heroism, is moving away from the previous Dukalis essence.

The producers of "Deadly Force" had an accurate calculation in that part that the current "Cops" have gone far from those who were in the first series and which they loved. That street recognition that created the “Cops” phenomenon has gone, just as the “Vzglyda” phenomenon created the street recognition of young presenters who were so out of the ordinary at the time type of celestial celebrities.

Konstantin Khabensky in an interview, restrained-negatively spoke about his work in the series:

- And how do you assess yourself in "Deadly Force"?
- Humanly - normal. But from a professional point of view - no.
