Crossing the Lower Thames ( Eng. Lower Thames Crossing ) - the project of a new crossing in the lower reaches of the Thames . This combined (railway and road) crossing will be built in the South-East of England .
Description
The ferry will have to connect the A130 highway in Essex (north of the ferry, Canvey Island ) and the A228 motorway in Kent (south of the ferry, Grain Island ).
The crossing constructively according to the initial project was a bridge, but the environmental movement puts pressure on public opinion in order to change the project and replace the bridge with a tunnel . It is planned to separate the railway line and the carriageway , they will adjoin each other in several sections.
It is also possible to create a new flood barrier, which will complement the construction in Ipswich .
The UK government has already introduced a new traffic distribution scheme. It indicates the highway bypassing London, of which this project will be a part.
In 2008, it was indicated that the project cost is estimated at 4 billion pounds . In addition, integration into the plans for building a tidal power station at the mouth of the Thames was voiced.
