SPYDER SR ( English S urface-to-air Python and Der by S hort R ange , "Spider" SR) is a short-range anti - aircraft missile system developed in Israel .

The spider was developed by a consortium of Israeli companies Rafael and Israel Aircraft Industries ( IAI ). The first version of the system was demonstrated in 2005 at the Paris Air Show in Le Bourget.

Composition of the complex
The complex includes: a reconnaissance and control point (PRU), self-propelled launchers (SPU) with four transport and launch containers for missiles and transport-loading vehicles (TZM).
Elements of air defense systems are installed on the chassis of the Tatra car (wheel formula - 6 Γ 6).
The battery may include up to six SPU.
Radar station EL / M-2106 NG - all-round viewing, three-axis pulse-Doppler, operating frequency range 1-2 GHz, target detection range - 35 km, the number of simultaneously tracked targets - 60, transmission of commands over the air.

SPYDER MR
A further development of the SPYDER air defense system is the SPYDER MR , an intermediate-range anti-aircraft missile system [2] .

The complex includes: a control point, a radar station, self-propelled launchers with eight transport and launch containers for missiles and transport and loading vehicles (TZM).
Elements of air defense systems are installed on the chassis of a terrain vehicle ( wheel formula - 8 Γ 8).
The battery may include up to six SPU.
Performance Specifications
Used missiles "Derby" and "Python-5" with a range of up to 35 km and a height of targets in the range of 20-16 000 meters (due to the installation of the starting engine).
Radar MF STAR - all-round visibility, target detection range - 100 km, the number of simultaneously tracked targets - 60.
Operation
- India - in 2008 India signed a contract for the supply of 18 SPYDER SR complexes [3]
- Georgia - According to some reports, one battery of the SPYDER SR air defense system (6 launchers) was supplied to the Georgian armed forces and participated in the war in South Ossetia in 2008 [4]

Combat use
According to Georgian media, Georgian air defense with the help of the Spyder-SR air defense system managed to destroy several Russian Su-25 attack aircraft in the war in South Ossetia (2008) [4] .
In February 2019, the armed forces of India, using the Spyder system, successfully intercepted and shot down a Pakistani reconnaissance drone [7] .
