The presidency of Pakistan is traditionally only nominal, the real power is in the hands of the prime minister . The current constitution gives the president the right to dissolve the National Assembly by calling for new elections, and the right to dismiss the prime minister, although these decisions may be vetoed by the Supreme Court . The president also chairs the National Security Council and is the commander in chief of the country's armed forces .
In April 2010, Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari signed constitutional amendments restricting his authority. In accordance with the amendments to the basic law of the country signed by the president, the head of state will lose the opportunity to dismiss the prime minister, appoint the heads of the military command, arbitrarily dissolve the parliament and introduce a state of emergency [1] .
