Geography
The city is located on the river Avash , at an altitude of 875 m above sea level [3] .

Population
According to the Central Statistical Agency , in 2005 the population of Avash was 11,053 people , of which 5,748 were men and 5,305 were women [4] . According to the 1994 census, the city’s population numbered 8,684 people .
Transportation
The Addis Ababa - Djibouti railway passes through the city.
Attractions
Not far from Avash there is the Avash National Park, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site .
