History
Back in the days of the Tang empire in 668, the Anduong governorate (安 东 都 护 府) was formed in these places - since then the name “Andun” (“Calm East”) exists.
During the Qing Empire, Andong County (安 东 县) was formed in 1876, and when Feng Tian Province was created in 1907, it became part of it.
In October 1934, the Andong Province (安 东 省) was established by the authorities of Manzhou-go , whose authorities were located in Andong County. In December 1937, the urbanized part of Andun County was allocated to the city of Andun.
In 1949, the province of Liaodong was created from the Andong province and part of Liaoning province , whose authorities were located in Andong. In 1954, the provinces of Liaodong and Liaosi were merged into the province of Liaoning, and Andong became a city of provincial subordination.
In 1955, the Andong Special Area (安 东 专区) was established, consisting of 5 counties. In 1958, it was disbanded, and the districts subordinate to it were distributed among neighboring special regions; counties Fengcheng, Xuyian, Andong and Kuandian came under the jurisdiction of the city of Andong. In 1965, by the decision of the State Council of the PRC, the city of Andun was renamed Dandong ("Red East").
